Coastline dynamics on islands situated within complex hydrodynamic environments require integrated, data-driven analytical approaches. In this study, shoreline changes of Larak Island and Hengam Island were investigated using satellite imagery from Sentinel‑2 within the Copernicus program for the 2016-2024 period in a GIS framework. After atmospheric corrections, shorelines were extracted using the NDWI index and an unsupervised K-means classification, whose accuracy was confirmed by a Cohen’s kappa coefficient of 0.87. Subsequently, four DSAS indices; SCE, NSM, EPR, and LRR, were calculated simultaneously along transects. This multi-index approach enabled differentiation among distinct dimensions of shoreline behavior, including variability range, net trend, and rate of change, demonstrating that reliance on a single metric cannot adequately characterize coastal dynamics. Spatial analysis revealed that shoreline change patterns are governed less by local wind regimes and more by the geohydrodynamic setting of the islands relative to regional circulation pathways in the Strait of Hormuz and the broader Persian Gulf system. Overall, the findings highlight that integrating remote sensing, spatial analysis, and multi-metric shoreline indicators provides a robust framework for monitoring, comparing, and anticipating coastal behavior, offering a scientifically grounded basis for sustainable coastal management decisions.
