Carbon quantum dots have many applications in optoelectronic systems due to their simple synthesis, biocompatibility, adjustable light emission, and transmission of ultraviolet wavelengths to the visible spectrum. Therefore, in this article, carbon quantum dots were synthesized from natural citrus extract using hydrothermal method and autoclave system. Then, using X-ray diffraction characterization methods, light scattering analysis, field emission transmission microscope, X-ray energy diffraction spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible light spectroscopy and photoluminescence spectroscopy, the structure of synthesized carbon quantum dots was investigated. The results show that the dimensions of carbon quantum dots are in the range of 10 to 50 nm Due to the feature of quantum limitation in this scale and the creation of different energy forbidden bands, it is possible to absorb different wavelengths of light, which increases the efficiency of solar cells. Due to the wide variety of the sunlight spectrum, especially in the range of visible light waves on the sea surface and the relatively long time of sunlight, it is possible to use more of this type of solar cells in marine vessels.
